When things happen at the right time.
Spinola Banna is above all a moment of concentration, a time to concentrate on oneself, one’s work and the need to share. It is the right time to have doubts about yourself. At last, you have a moment when nothing more is asked of you than to think of this. It is also mostly a time to study.
The experience of sharing during the workshops occurred spontaneously. The selection of the participants was carried out very accurately according to our study areas, so that we found ourselves discussing issues that were fundamental to our individual artistic practices.
The generosity of the Foundation goes far beyond its warm welcome and hospitality. As soon as you arrive at Poirino you can see that preparations began a long time before, with the choosing of the guest artists and the preparation of the workshops.
The fact of “feeling at home” is not simply rhetorical: it happens naturally, such as it did when we entered Guido’s personal library to borrow three boxes full of books and catalogues, which were the most important tools of our course. The same is true of the personal help, encouragement, dedication and willingness on the part of Gail and Leigh, which were fundamental for the success of the residence.
So, thanks.
