The Otolith Group

Beginning in 2008, the Fondazione Banna Spinola per l’Arte, will expand upon its teaching initiatives by inaugurating a series of short project workshops dedicated to young artists who have already taken part in activities at the Fondazione.
The Otolith Group were invited to the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte to lead the seminar which was held from September 19 to September 23, 2010.

Taking their name from the part of the inner ear that governs our sense of balance and orientation, the Otolith Group is a collective led by the founding members Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun. The Group produces films and videos, artists writing, organises workshops, curates exhibitions, publishes and develops public platforms for a close-up reading of images of contemporary society. Formally, the work of the group probes the potential of the documentary, art house films, post-colonial archives, cosmopolitan modernism and science fiction and explores links between them.
The Group has curated and co-curated national and international film festivals, programmes and exhibitions.
The Group presented the solo-show A Long Time Between the Suns: Part I and Part II, in the Gasworks space and in The Showroom in London (2009). They have also taken part in a number of group shows, including the British Art Show 7, Nottingham, London, Glasgow and Plymouth (2010), Manifesta 8: The European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Murcia, (2010), Universes in Universe: San Paolo 29 Biennial (2010), Star City: The Future under Communism, Nottingham Contemporary (2010), Universal Code, Power Plant, Toronto (2009), Translocalmotion: the Shanghai Biennial (2008).
