Massimo Bartolini
The autunn 2011 workshop was lead by Italian artist Massimo Bartolini (Cecina LV 1962).
Massimo Bartolini used different techniques for his works, such as photography, video and installation, but in the last years he focussed his attention on the design and construction of spaces and places capable of transforming the initial space. The whole of Massimo Bartolini's work is a search for the enrichment of our perceptive assumptions. His works are always paths inside this research, places to cross and at the same time unconventional mental landscapes that can be recognised thanks to some insignificant and common fragment. One of his latest works had the ironic title "The California hamlet Cecina" (2002), where the artist reproduced his studio with all the objects that tell and talk also about Cecina, the town where Bartolini always lived. The rooms - the "Heads" as the artist called them from the beginning - are one of the best working and most important metaphors of the artist's communication system, places of redemption within which it is possible to think oneself and push oneself beyond a limit. Once again - as Laura Cherubini rightly wrote - Bartolini's concern is to take also the body to the places reached by mind.
